Taiwan 2019 Day 7: Kaoshiung 高雄 // 24 Oct 2019

If I had knew earlier, I probably would have stayed a night in Tainan. But well since we are back in Kaoshiung, we were on a lookout on what else to do. So we asked Jacky (our driver from the last few days) to recommend a driver for us in Kaoshiung to take us around and somehow we had a free upgrade to 9 seater! Wow, such unmerited favour!

The driver came to pick us at 9am (and they always arrive earlier than expected).

Our first stop; breakfast!!!

They loved the 锅贴 here

I love the egg wrap with You Tiao (蛋餅夾油條)

The soya bean is pale in comparison to the one we had at 宽来顺 but overall it was not too bad.

Then we set off to 新威森林公園 (Xinwei Forest Park). It is a pretty nice and quiet area for morning walks (insta worthy photos can be taken here too!)

Love this walkway laid down by trees
Also grateful for a driver that goes above and beyond and not only brings us around the spot, he offered to take nice photos for us too.

We were wondering why some trees were marked with red strings

The view

We spent about half an hour thereabouts here before we headed off to Dajin Waterfall, which was in 屏东 Pingtung. Just to say upfront, it is quite a hike (and super proud of my great-grandaunt and great-granduncle in law who made it all because they can't actually take steps much). The steps are wide and pretty easy to walk but it is still quite a distance from the entrance to the waterfall itself. So I would suggest come in a good pair of walking shoes and bring along water.

This was taken by the driver too

And on that note also, I was quite badly beaten by the mosquitoes so you may want to come prepared with mosquito repellent throughout the trip, especially if you are exploring the southern part of Taiwan.

The steps were mostly short and wide

Midway

Once you see the hut, you are almost there

The view at the rest point

We spotted a family who brought their dog there

The waterfall

It was super refreshing and cooling to just be seated by the waterfall and listening to the waters come gushing down.

After a good morning hike, we were famished and we headed off to lunch! And because it was past 2pm when we were looking for a lunch place, there weren't much options but this shop didn't disappoint.
The fried rice was good too!

轉角麵店
麻酱面 - Would probably have tasted much nicer with chilli oil

After filling our tummies, we were driven to the Taiwan Indigenous People Cultural Park. The main highlight was an hour performance by the Indigenous People which was pretty interesting (and air-conditioned).

This is the entrance to the theatre where we watched the Indigenous Performance

This is the free shuttle bus you can take
Next stop, the driver was nice to drop us at Qishan Old Street 旗山老街,again. Except this time it wasn't as crowded. Then we mainly just bought bananas (and I bought a dress) before we headed back to the hotel.

Qishan Old Street 旗山老街

Definitely missing the sweet bananas!!!

We dropped off our bags, refreshed up a bit before walking across the street (or two) for dinner!!!

Our dinner place
This spinach dish is yummy!

This was just okay... omelette stirred fried with crab meat

The goose meat was what they are famous for and certainly it was yummy

This tofu was just okay

Such a fulfilling meal and then we headed back to the hotel to rest for the night.
