One Day in Singapore [Extra] - (Sunday, 20th July 2014)

If you had one day with your friends from overseas in Singapore, what would you do? Where would you bring them to experience Singapore?

I had one of those when a friend visited Singapore with her sister over the weekend and we didn't think it would be that challenging to think of places to bring them but unfortunately besides the famous tourist attractions, we didn't really quite know where to bring them and this ended up being our itinerary:

1st Stop: Lunch at Red Star Restaurant

Situated on the 7th floor of an old estate in Singapore, Red Star Restaurant has been famous for their long queues and also being one of the few restaurants in Singapore that still employ the traditional cart-pushing ladies just like in Hong Kong. We were very blessed that we didn't have to queue for very long.

My friend said that no visit to Red Star is complete without their Liu Sha Bao, which she had to personally order from the manager. Though they would say that they carry them on the pushcarts, but they are often gone before you see it so she suggested we order it instead.

It was a sumptuous meal for us all, including myself since it was the first time I have checked out Red Star (from memory) and surprisingly they enjoyed the meal and especially the CHICKEN FEET!!!

Nearest Station: CHINATOWN

2nd Stop: Haji Lane
Also my first time to Haji Lane, it is situated in the Malay suburb of Singapore and it enabled our friends to see some Malay mosques, costumes, restaurants etc. This was a nice lane to shop for retro, unique boutique shops. Feel very out of Singapore when we were in the lane...

Nearest Station: BUGIS

3rd Stop: Bugis Village
By the time we got to Bugis, we just had to chill at Blackball for a while as the sun was getting unbearable by that time. After the refresher, we headed over to Bugis Village where there were many shops to shop at. To be honest, this was also the first time I had properly shopped the whole of Bugis Village. What caught my eyes was none other than the Wall of Love Chains, found on the K Street, an idea adapted from Korea.

Nearest Station: BUGIS

4th Stop: Holland Village
Not really knowing what to do, we boarded the train at Bugis and headed to Buona Vista to change to the circle line to get to Holland Village. I had initially wanted to introduce them to D'good Cafe, one of my personal favourite cafes in Holland Village but since it was full house, we had to find other alternatives to escape from the sun.

And that was how we walked into Haagen Dasz.

The sofa seats were comfy and the ice cream was good and it gave us a nice environment to simply sit and catch up with each other.

OUR HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: CRAB AND DURIAN!!!

5th Stop: Ghim Moh
We thought that no visit to Singapore would be complete without trying Singapore's Chilli Crab... So we headed to Master Crab at Ghim Moh for our friends to try Singapore styled crabs!!!~

White Pepper Crab
The white pepper crab was one of my favourite, spicy enough yet enjoyable and I guess that would probably be one of the reasons why our Korean friends also liked it.

Our Korean friends mentioned that they really enjoyed "satay" and since there was a stall also selling satays, we thought, why not?
Satay

And if you have adventurous friends like ours who are willing to give DURIAN a try, we highly recommend this stall! We actually have to call a few days in advance to pre-order the durians we wanted and they only serve people who pre-ordered.

Overall even though the weather was unbearably hot, it was nice to have our friends from overseas around and simply bringing them to see this little city (maybe not that little) called SINGAPORE!!!
