Day 2 of our R(est) & R(elax) Holiday in Penang, Malaysia! (14 March 2014, Friday)
Kind Notice: This is a PHOTO-HEAVY BLOG POST...
Our hotel room in Flamingo Hotel by the Beach came with buffet breakfast, so we delighted ourselves in the variety of food made available.
Somehow always found that Malaysia does their porridge very well and I've always liked it...
The prawn noodles was a bit bland in our perspective.
Have to admit that they did their chicken sausages really well that we went back for another serving...
I am personally not a fan of cereals but I have somehow fell in love with cereals after this trip!
Ended our breakfast with healthy fruits!
EXPLORE GEORGETOWN!
From research, we learnt that street art was one of the highlights of Penang! The map below shows whereabouts the street arts could be located, and our hotel was near "H" though we didn't actually get to find "H".
Download the brochure for more information.
Even though we managed to find Moustache Houze, which was a cafe recommended by many, we didn't realise that they do not open till 4 in the afternoon.
There was a sign that points towards the Camera Museum so we decided to walk that way to see if there would be anything interesting.

KANTAN CAFE |
At the corner of the same street (Campbell Street) where we found Moustache Houze, we spotted this cute KANTAN KAFE. We were still a little full from our Chendol so we didn't go in to check it out. According to online reviews, it is quite a nice and cozy cafe.
This was not actually one of the welded iron wall caricatures shown in the brochures |
This is Love Lane |
This is (7) Cheating Husband, found at Love Lane |
7-ELEVEN LOVE LANE wall has another one... |
This was also not found in the brochure. |
(4) One Leg Kicks All located on Lebuh Muntri |
Just right before we reached the Camera Museum, we found the first STREET ART!!!
Just next to the camera museum was the PURRFECT CAT CAFE - a cat cafe.
We were pretty nearby our hotel so we decided to try finding the (1) Jimmy Choo welded iron wall caricature which we were unable to find earlier. And we finally found it opposite the Coffee and Chocolate Museum.
The sun was kicking in and we decided that since we were so close to our hotel, it would probably be a good idea to go back to the hotel to hydrate ourselves as well as to put some sun block on.
A girlfriend of mine recommended us to visit the Tai Tong Cafe for their Dim Sum but unfortunately when we arrived there at 12.30pm, their Dim Sum were all sold out, so we ordered dishes to share instead, which turned out to taste good also!
The beancurd tasted soft and yummy. We had initially wanted to order another style of chicken but the lady recommended us to get the chicken stir fried with ginger. I didn't actually know how it would turn out but surprisingly we both love it! There was a tint of honey and it tasted sweet and the ginger taste did not come out very strong. Definitely recommend the chicken dish if you're there for lunch! And their home brewed Licorice mixed with Chrysanthemum Tea tasted refreshing too! The meal cost us RM37.20 (SGD$14~), real good deal for such good food!
However if you would like to enjoy their famous Dim Sum, we highly recommend that you go earlier, say before noon?
Also, recently there is a Hong Kong drama, production of TVB titled "Gilded Chopsticks" and the one famous dish in their drama was Salted Fish Buns and they sold it here too.
After filling our stomachs, we were ready to explore more of George Town.
And opposite this wedding drawing, we found another caricature.
Such a nostalgic picture!
By the time we saw this 70's ICE, we were both very dehydrated and quite burnt out by the HOT sun. So we decided to catch a bus back to the hotel instead of walking back. And the plus points were while we were searching for the bus-stop to catch the bus, we found more street arts and caricatures.
We caught a bus back to our hotel vicinity and that made us feel a lot better. The hot sun caused us to feel dehydrated and exhausted so we concluded that resting at the hotel would be a great idea.
Really wondered why there were so many "hearts" in the restaurant, was it because it was White Valentine's Day?
The chicken katsu was a little over fried, but the Ika Sushi was very fresh and chewy, love for more!
Dinner was quite filling but because our hotel room did not come with free wifi, and it will cost us RM20 for 5 hours of internet, we decided to chill at the Gold Choice Lifestyle Cafe for coffee and to utilise their WIFI.
After a good two hours of chilling at the cafe and using their internet, we decided that it was time to return to the hotel. After packing up our luggage, we were able to spend time to chit-chat, partially because there was no internet in the room and the other was because we both napped earlier on and not as tired.
And that was pretty much how we spent the second day in Penang!
Our last morning in Penang can be read HERE.

Bedside reads |
Joel Osteen's "It's Your Time", a book that I asked God for when I was going on one of my trips to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia back in Jan 2013. I was walking around HarbourFront Centre while waiting to board the coach on a 5 hour journey to KL and I asked God for something to read on the way up to KL. Just when I was going to give up, I walked into CHEERS (a convenience store) and was going to pick up a magazine to read and my eyes was drawn to this book. The amazing thing was this book was located in a convenience store and I was blessed with such a great book to read. However I never had the chance to properly read it until this trip. Dee was already asleep while I was showering and while preparing to nap, I decided to read and even though the pages have gone yellow, the contents are still as good, and timely for a season like this.
After reading a few pages, my eyelids finally gave in and I napped for a while too. We woke up around 6 plus and figured it should be dinner time and we decided to check out any nearby restaurants for food. We settled for Japanese food.
